[Fashion Friday] High Top Wedge Sneakers / Shoes: Yay or Nay?
Posted by Candie (February 8, 2013 at 8:30 am), 7 CommentsAlthough sometimes we find it to be a struggle, Liz and I try our darndest to keep up with the current trends all the while embracing our own style. Sometimes, a trend will come into play that we’re just not sure we can get on board with (such as the half-tuck) but, we still try to keep an open mind. Lately, I keep seeing girls wearing the latest in the shoe craze…you know the one – the “high top heel” or the “heel sneakers” and I’m really having a hard time embracing it. Read: they make me cringe. Seriously. Let’s take a looksie, shall we?
Exhibit A:
Let’s talk about this for a second. These are by Marc Jacobs, are selling for $328 and I can’t for the life of me say that I could find an outfit to pair these with. Am I losing my mind?
Offender B:
Somebody should tell Giuseppe Zanotti that just because you make something pink, add a zipper and some studs, doesn’t mean that you should charge people eight HUNDRED and NINETY FIVE dollars to walk around looking like they’ve been sent from the future…of another planet.
Fashion No-No C:
What the frickidy frack? Not only do these shoes look painful, but they also look plastic and holey. These are okay for 6 year old Candie’s Barbies, maybe…but I don’t know that I’d ever pay Jeffrey Campbell even close to the $194.95 that he’s asking or let him get close enough to my feet.
Is there some appeal that I’m missing? How do you guys feel about these? Maybe someone can convince me to think otherwise? HELP! :)

Perhaps we can forgo the huge price tag, buy a pair of sneakers and glue stiletto heels on them ourselves. Throw up some glitter all over them, and charge our friends and family an economical $200. New tennis-heels? $200. Looking like an idiot and forcing others to do so to? Priceless.
I was just thinking – I could totally buy converse or keds and attach some studs. They would probably be much more wearable. I have to admit though Candie – I like the Marc Jacobs version. Picture them with bleach-washed tight jeans, a cute vintage Nike or Adidas tee and gangsta style baseball cap. Surfer chick from Queens? No?
The moon shoes?! haha! I can see what you mean, but it would take some serious style and confidence to pull those things off! ;) I’d like to see this keds/converse version though! Get on that!! :)
My thoughts exactly, Misty! I’m sure someone could pull the look off – but that person better have the $ to drop on trying it out! haha!
I’m sure there is somebody who could pull off these shoes and look amazing…that is definitely not me though – I am staying well away from this trend! Thanks for inviting me to enter the geometric competition…I had a look but I’m from the UK so I don’t think I can enter?!
Ok I had to comment because I was reading a book called bad fashions and how they should never comeback in style. There were so many things that have come back presently or recently that are in that book. Anyways when I first saw these I thought wow I would look so silly in these. And I could totally see those in a book like that, years from now.
Haha!!! Thats the best thing I’ve heard, Heather! I think Liz and I could have written this book! What other things were in it?! Now I’m so curious!!
