Pinterest Challenge: Bench Cushion

The Backstory: The second that I read about this challenge on both Katie Bower and Sherry Petersik’s blogs, I called Liz immediately and told her that we would have a blast doing this Winter’s Pinterest Challenge. It was especially important to me since the last time these ladies held a challenge, I was unable to join in on the fun. Well, I almost missed this time around as well!
When they first announced the challenge, I went out and purchased my supplies that very night.
I was so proud of myself for being so proactive. Also, this challenge had come at the perfect time. My mom had just asked me to make her a bench cushion for her wicker trunk. She and I immediately went shopping for the perfect fabric (the vision: something fresh and fun) and I began my project that very night.
Before I started, I needed to glue some of the foam form together to better fit the exact dimensions of the trunk, so I got to cutting (with a box cutter since the foam was so thick) and gluing. Then, I laid out the fabric to begin the painful cutting and pinning process. Since I decided to do this like I had imagined a superhero had (clearly) I chose not to find a template. I know, I’m such a daredevil.
After I pinned everything, I went to bed. I thought I was ahead of the game since I knew that I would have a jam packed weekend ahead of me. But, I was certain that I would be able to bang out the rest of the project two days before the deadline. That would give me plenty of time to spare!
Well, I woke up quite the little sickling. Yet somehow, between coughing, sneezing, body aches,a headache and a slight fever, I was able to trudge along slowly and come through with my bench cushion project!
The Final Product:
Project Breakdown:
1.333 yards of fabric: $13.33 (originally $26.65 but I had a nice 50% of coop)
3 sets of buttons: $1.25 each (one of which was rung up with a 50% off coupon $-.63)
1 bag of piping: $3.99
3 packages of foam: originally $10.99 each but rung up at 50% off for $5.50 each
I actually got really lucky and the cashier applied my 50% off coupon to most everything in my cart! How often does that happen?!
Grand Total: $36.94 + tax
Not too shabby, if I do say so myself!
